What is giving?
God owns everything
We respond to God’s gifts and kindness by giving to Him. Our contributions make it possible for the Gospel to reach others through the work of the church, both locally and globally. Individually, we worship by loving our family and others with our money. This may take the form of sharing your home and a meal with friends, sponsoring a child for an activity, or buying a Bible for a coworker. Our whole lives are to be marked by worship, including how we use our money.
Why we give
Giving allows us to plant churches to spread the Gospel in other cities across the nation and around the world. Giving also allows us to serve our local community by providing for their needs and creating opportunities for their growth and restoration.
How we give
“Each person should do as he has decided in his heart—not reluctantly or out of compulsion, since God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work.”
2 Corinthians 9:7-8
Who is the owner of all things?
This is what the Lord of Armies, the God of Israel, says: Tell this to your masters: “By my great strength and outstretched arm, I made the earth, and the people, and animals on the face of the earth. I give it to anyone I please.”
Who provides for us?
The Lord helps all who fall; he raises up all who are oppressed. All eyes look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time. You open your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.
How are we to respond?
Let the whole earth shout triumphantly to God! Serve the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
How are we to Give?
The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously. Each person should do as he has decided in his heart — not reluctantly or out of compulsion, since God loves a cheerful giver.
